Theatrical Syndicate

The Theatrical Syndicate was a monopoly formed in the late 19th century by several powerful theater owners and managers in the United States. It controlled much of the touring theatrical productions and theater bookings, effectively coordinating schedules and limiting access for independent producers. This agreement allowed the syndicate to dominate the industry, set prices, and reduce competition, which often led to higher costs for producers and theaters outside the syndicate’s control. The syndicate’s influence lasted until new competitors and changing industry dynamics gradually diminished its power.
