Theatre for the Oppressed

Theatre for the Oppressed is an interactive form of theatre developed by Augusto Boal that empowers marginalized or oppressed communities. It uses dramatization techniques, such as role-playing and improvisation, to explore social issues and encourage participants to analyze, problem-solve, and envision change. Unlike traditional theatre, it involves the audience—called "spect-actors"—in the performance, fostering active engagement and personal reflection. This approach aims to raise awareness, challenge unjust systems, and promote collective action by transforming spectators into active participants in both understanding and addressing societal problems.
