The Women's Football Association

The Women's Football Association (WFA) was an organization founded in 1969 to promote and develop women’s football (soccer) in England. It aimed to organize competitions, improve the sport’s recognition, and support female players. The WFA played a key role in increasing opportunities and visibility for women in football, leading to the establishment of official leagues and national teams. It operated until 1993, when the Football Association (FA) took over main oversight of women’s football in the UK, integrating women’s and girls’ football into the broader football governance structure.
