The White Ship (The "Batan Adam")

The White Ship, also known as "Batan Adam," was a medieval vessel famous for its tragic sinking in 1120 near England. It carried William Adelin, heir to King Henry I, and many nobles. The ship struck a submerged rock during a storm, causing a rapid and devastating wreck that resulted in the deaths of around 300 people, including the heir to the throne. This catastrophe led to a period of instability and civil war in England, known as The Anarchy, as the king's succession was impacted, highlighting the importance of maritime safety and the vulnerability of medieval maritime travel.
