The US Congress

The US Congress is the legislative branch of the United States government, responsible for making laws. It consists of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 100 members, two from each state, serving six-year terms. The House has 435 members, apportioned based on each state's population, serving two-year terms. Congress debates, amends, and votes on bills that affect the country. It also has powers like approving budgets, ratifying treaties, and overseeing the executive branch. Together, Congress represents the people and balances the powers within the federal government.
