the Uprising of 1876
The Uprising of 1876, also known as the Black Hills War, was a conflict between the U.S. Army and various Native American tribes, primarily the Sioux. Tensions rose after gold was discovered in the Black Hills of South Dakota, an area sacred to the Sioux. The U.S. tried to force the tribes onto reservations, but as resistance grew, armed clashes occurred, including the famous Battle of Little Bighorn. The uprising reflected Native Americans' struggle to protect their land and way of life against U.S. expansion and encroachment during the late 19th century.
