The Umbrellas
The Umbrellas refers to two iconic installation artworks by artist Christo and his late wife Jeanne-Claude. Created in 1991, the project involved 1,340 yellow and blue umbrellas set up in Japan and the United States. Their striking, large-scale presence transformed landscapes, inviting public interaction and study of the environment. The project explored themes of nature, human interaction, and the temporality of art, as the installations were only on display for a short time. Through their work, Christo and Jeanne-Claude aimed to create moments of beauty and reflection in ordinary spaces.
