The Truth Commission for El Salvador
The Truth Commission for El Salvador was established in 1992 to investigate human rights abuses committed during the country's civil war (1980-1992). Its goal was to uncover facts about violence, including killings and disappearances, and promote reconciliation. The commission gathered testimonies, documented events, and identified those responsible, while recommending reparations for victims. Although it did not have prosecutorial power, its work aimed to foster national healing, provide closure for victims and their families, and support the transition to peace and democracy.
