The Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program

The Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program is a joint training initiative among three leading institutions—Weill Cornell Medicine, Rockefeller University, and Cornell University—designed to prepare physician-scientists. Students earn both a medical degree (MD) and a research doctorate (PhD), allowing them to combine clinical medicine with biomedical research. The program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling graduates to conduct innovative research that advances medical knowledge and improves patient care. It typically spans over 7-8 years, integrating rigorous coursework, research training, and medical education to develop professionals capable of bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical application.
