The Transtheoretical Model (TTM)
The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) explains how people change behaviors, such as quitting smoking or exercising more. It suggests that change happens gradually through five stages: precontemplation (not considering change), contemplation (thinking about change), preparation (getting ready), action (implementing change), and maintenance (sustaining change). Individuals may move back and forth between these stages. TTM emphasizes that different strategies are effective at different stages, making behavior change a dynamic, non-linear process. It helps professionals tailor support to each person's readiness, increasing the likelihood of successful, lasting change.
