The Towers (Twin Towers)
The Twin Towers were two of the tallest buildings in New York City, part of the original World Trade Center complex, completed in 1973. Designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki, they were iconic symbols of commerce and innovation, each standing 110 stories tall. The towers featured a unique design with a central core for elevators and utilities, surrounded by closely spaced steel columns. On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four planes, and two of them were flown into the towers, causing massive structural collapse and resulting in nearly 3,000 deaths, profoundly impacting global security and raising awareness about terrorism.
