The Toulmin Model
The Toulmin Model is a way to analyze and build arguments by breaking them into six parts: a claim (your main point), evidence or data that supports it, a warrant explaining why the evidence supports the claim, backing to strengthen the warrant, a qualifier indicating the strength of the claim, and a rebuttal considering counterarguments. This structure helps ensure your argument is clear, logical, and well-supported by reasoning and evidence. It’s useful for both evaluating others’ arguments and constructing your own, promoting critical thinking and clearer communication.
