The Titanic’s distress signals

The Titanic used two main distress signals: distress flares and radio messages. Flares were bright, colored rockets launched into the sky to attract immediate attention. Radio communications, primarily via wireless telegraphy, used the Morse code distress signal “SOS” and “CQD” to alert nearby ships of its emergency. These signals notified other vessels of the sinking and helped coordinate rescue efforts. The combination of visual and radio signals was vital in prompting assistance during the ship’s tragic sinking in 1912.
