the Titanic disaster
The Titanic was a large, luxurious passenger ship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1912 after hitting an iceberg in the North Atlantic. The collision caused the hull to rupture, flooding multiple compartments and compromising the vessel’s stability. Insufficient lifeboats and a lack of organized evacuation led to over 1,500 deaths out of approximately 2,200 onboard. The disaster exposed flaws in ship design, safety regulations, and emergency preparedness, prompting widespread changes in maritime safety standards. It remains one of history’s most infamous maritime tragedies.
