The Tick
A tick is a small, blood-feeding parasite related to spiders and mites. It attaches to the skin of humans or animals to feed on blood, often without immediate notice. Ticks are important because they can transmit diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. They have a specialized mouthpart called a hypostome that anchors them securely while feeding. Ticks typically live in grassy, wooded areas and latch onto hosts during outdoor activities. Removing a tick promptly and properly is crucial to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
