The Three Eldest Sons of Charles I
Charles I’s three eldest sons were Charles II, James II, and Charles Edward Stuart. They were key figures in British royal history, especially during periods of political upheaval. Charles II, known as the "Merry Monarch," ruled after the English Civil War and the overthrow of his father, restoring the monarchy in 1660. James II, his brother, was Catholic and faced opposition, leading to the Glorious Revolution that replaced him with William and Mary. Charles Edward Stuart, also called "Bonnie Prince Charlie," was a Jacobite claimant attempting to restore the Stuart family to the British throne in the 18th century.
