The Terri Schiavo case
The Terri Schiavo case centered on a legal and ethical dispute over her care after she became unconscious due to a cardiac arrest in 1990. Unable to communicate, her husband and parents disagreed over whether to remove her feeding tube, which kept her alive. Her husband argued she would not want to live in that state and sought to withdraw life support, while her parents wanted to continue care. This led to protracted court battles over her wishes, ultimately resulting in her feeding tube being removed in 2005, ending her life after nearly 15 years of legal controversy.
