The Temple in Jerusalem
The Temple in Jerusalem refers to two ancient structures central to Jewish religious life. The first, built by King Solomon around 957 BCE, was a majestic place of worship housing the Ark of the Covenant. Destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, it was rebuilt in the 6th century BCE but later expanded by King Herod in the 1st century BCE. This second Temple became a significant pilgrimage site until it was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. The Temple's site, known as the Temple Mount, remains a focal point in Judaism, symbolizing faith, history, and longing for spiritual redemption.
