The SWIFT PRIME trial

The SWIFT PRIME trial studied whether adding a specialized clot-retrieval procedure to standard treatment helps stroke patients with large artery blockages. Patients received either the usual stroke treatment (clot-busting medications) or combined with a mechanical device to remove the clot. The trial found that those who received the combined approach were more likely to recover better with minimal disabilities. This study supports using mechanical clot removal, alongside standard care, for certain stroke patients to improve their chances of full recovery.
