the Supernormal

Supernormal stimuli are types of signals or triggers that are more intense or exaggerated than the natural cues animals or humans typically respond to. These exaggerated signals grab our attention or provoke a stronger reaction because they are more appealing or salient than the real thing. For example, a brightly colored, oversized insect lure can attract more attention than a regular insect, even though it’s not naturally occurring. In humans, advertisements using exaggerated images or messages can evoke stronger desires or responses than everyday stimuli, influencing our behavior by overstimulating our natural inclinations.
