The stress response

The stress response is your body's way of preparing to handle a challenge or threat. When you perceive stress, your brain signals the release of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones increase your heart rate, boost energy, and sharpen your focus, enabling you to act quickly—sometimes called "fight or flight." Once the threat passes, your body generally returns to normal. This response is helpful in short bursts but can be harmful if triggered frequently or persistently, leading to health issues like high blood pressure or weakened immunity if sustained over time.
