The story of the Roma
The Roma, also known as Romani people, originated in northern India around a thousand years ago and migrated to Europe over centuries. They developed a distinct culture with their own language, traditions, and social structure. Historically, they faced discrimination, persecution, and marginalization across many countries, including forced labor, segregation, and violence, especially during the Holocaust. Despite these challenges, the Roma community has preserved its cultural identity, contributing to the arts, music, and craftsmanship. Today, they often continue to confront social and economic obstacles but remain a vital part of Europe's diverse cultural landscape.
