The story of Hou Yi and Chang’e is a Chinese myth about love and sacrifice. Hou Yi was a legendary archer who shot down nine of ten suns, saving Earth from scorching heat. As a reward, he received a potion of immortality, intended for his wife, Chang’e. When a villain tried to steal the potion, Chang’e drank it to keep it safe, ascending to the moon and becoming its goddess. Hou Yi was heartbroken, often gazing at the moon where she resides. The tale explains the Mid-Autumn Festival, symbolizing reunion and the longing for loved ones separated.
