The Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative

The Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (StAR) is a partnership between the World Bank and the United Nations designed to help countries recover assets stolen through corruption and illicit activities. It provides technical assistance, research, and tools to improve the process of tracing, freezing, and returning stolen funds held in foreign banks or jurisdictions. Essentially, StAR aims to strengthen legal and financial systems worldwide to prevent theft of public assets and ensure lost money is recovered and returned to the people or countries they belong to.
