The Stoa (Stoic school)
The Stoa, or Stoic school, was an ancient Greek philosophy emphasizing rationality, virtue, and self-control as paths to a good life. Founded by Zeno of Citium around 300 BCE, Stoics believe that by understanding the natural order and cultivating inner resilience, individuals can maintain tranquility regardless of external circumstances. They advocate focusing on what we can control—our thoughts and actions—while accepting what we cannot. The philosophy encourages wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation, aiming for a life aligned with reason and nature. Stoicism remains influential today in promoting mental resilience and ethical living.
