The Stages of Life (by Erikson)
Erik Erikson's theory describes eight stages of human development, each centered on a key conflict that influences personality. These stages span from infancy to old age. For example, in early childhood, individuals work to develop trust or mistrust based on their caregivers’ consistency. Adolescents seek identity, determining who they are, while adults focus on intimacy or isolation in relationships. Older adults reflect on their life achievements, experiencing either integrity or regret. Successfully resolving each stage leads to a healthy personality; unresolved conflicts may cause challenges later. This model highlights how social and emotional challenges evolve throughout life.
