The Spleen

The spleen is an organ located in the upper left side of the abdomen, near the stomach. It plays a key role in the immune system by helping to filter blood, removing old or damaged red blood cells, and storing white blood cells and platelets. The spleen also helps monitor for and respond to infections. While it is important for immune function, it is not essential for survival, and other organs can perform many of its roles if necessary. Overall, the spleen supports blood health and immune defense.
