The Spit
The spit, or umbilicus, is the scar left on the abdomen after the umbilical cord is cut at birth. It serves as a natural point of attachment between a fetus and the mother during pregnancy, providing nutrients and oxygen through the placenta. Once the umbilical cord is clamped and cut, the remaining stump dries out and falls off within a week or two, leaving a scar known as the belly button or navel. The structure inside the belly button is just residual tissue, and it has no significant functional role after birth.
