The Spiral Jetty Project
The Spiral Jetty Project is an art installation created by Robert Smithson in 1970, located on the Great Salt Lake in Utah. It consists of a large, spiral-shaped coil made of black basalt rocks and earth, extending into the lake’s shoreline. The artwork interacts with its environment, changing appearance with varying water levels, weather, and time, highlighting the relationship between nature and human intervention. It’s considered a pioneering example of land art, emphasizing landscape as a canvas and engaging viewers in contemplating natural processes, permanence, and the passage of time.
