The Soviet Geneticists

The Soviet geneticists were scientists in the Soviet Union who studied heredity and evolution, but their research was often influenced by ideological constraints. During the Stalin era, genetics faced rejection in favor of Lysenkoism, a pseudoscience that rejected Mendelian genetics and natural selection. This led to the suppression of genuine genetic research, hindering scientific progress in biology. Despite this, some Soviet scientists continued to work in genetics secretly or in exile. After Stalin's death, mainstream genetics was gradually restored in the USSR, aligning more closely with international scientific standards.
