The Slavic-Bulgarian History
The Slavic-Bulgarian history centers on the formation of Bulgaria in the 7th century, when Bulgars, a Turkic-speaking people, established a powerful kingdom in the Balkans. Over time, Slavic tribes migrated into the region, blending with Bulgars, and adopting Christianity under Byzantine influence. The First Bulgarian Empire (7th–11th centuries) became a major cultural and political force, producing a rich literary tradition and a standard alphabet, Cyrillic. Later, Bulgaria faced conquest by Byzantines, Ottomans, and others, but preserved its Slavic heritage and identity. This history reflects a complex interplay of cultural, linguistic, and political influences shaping Bulgaria’s medieval and modern identity.
