The Sinclair Method
The Sinclair Method is a treatment for alcohol dependence that uses medication—typically naltrexone—to help individuals reduce or stop drinking. When taken before drinking, naltrexone blocks the brain's pleasure response from alcohol, gradually decreasing the urge to drink over time. Unlike traditional methods that emphasize abstinence, this approach allows controlled drinking initially, with the goal of diminishing alcohol cravings and eventually achieving long-term sobriety. It’s based on understanding that behavior can change by altering brain responses, making it a scientifically supported strategy for managing alcohol addiction.
