The Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso)

The Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso) is a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla movement in Peru, founded in the late 1970s by Abimael Guzmán. Its goal was to overthrow the Peruvian government and establish a communist state. Known for its brutal tactics, including terrorism and violence against civilians, the group gained notoriety in the 1980s and 1990s. Although weakened by military action and social opposition, remnants of the movement still exist today.
