The Shakers
The Shakers, formally known as the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, were a religious communal group founded in the 18th century in England and later established in the United States. They emphasize simple living, equality, celibacy, and non-violence, with a focus on spiritual renewal. Known for their distinctive shaker-style furniture, they practiced communal ownership and worship through energetic, rhythmic dancing and singing, which gave them the name "Shakers." Despite declining numbers, their influence persists through their craftsmanship and lasting community contributions.
