The Seven Principles
The Seven Principles of Public Life, developed by the UK’s Committee on Standards in Public Life, outline ethical standards for those in public roles. They are: 1) Selflessness – acting for the public good, not personal gain; 2) Integrity – maintaining honesty and transparency; 3) Objectivity – making decisions based on facts, free from bias; 4) Accountability – taking responsibility for actions and decisions; 5) Openness – being transparent about actions and decisions; 6) Honesty – communicating truthfully; and 7) Leadership – acting as a role model and inspiring trust. These principles promote trust, fairness, and integrity in public service.
