The Science of Physiognomy

Physiognomy is the study of how facial features and physical expressions are thought to reflect a person's character or personality traits. Historically, it suggested that by examining someone’s face—such as the shape of their eyes, nose, or jaw—one could infer aspects of their behavior or temperament. While it has roots in ancient practices, modern science views physiognomy as a pseudoscience, as there is little empirical evidence supporting consistent links between facial features and personality. Today, it is appreciated more as a cultural or historical concept rather than a valid scientific method for understanding individuals.
