The SARS Outbreak

The SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak occurred in 2002-2003, caused by a virus called coronavirus. It spread from animals to humans, mainly through close contact and respiratory droplets from coughs or sneezes. Symptoms included high fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, with some cases progressing to pneumonia. The outbreak spread globally, especially affecting Asia, due to high population density and travel. Rapid public health responses, quarantine measures, and increased awareness helped contain the virus within a few months. SARS highlighted the importance of early detection and global cooperation in managing infectious diseases.
