The SALT Treaties

The SALT (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks) treaties were agreements between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War aimed at limiting the number of nuclear weapons each side had. Signed in the 1970s, SALT I and SALT II set caps on missile launchers and strategic weapons to reduce the risk of nuclear conflict and promote stability. These treaties were significant steps toward arms control, fostering trust and transparency, even though they didn't eliminate weapons entirely. They laid the groundwork for future negotiations on nuclear arms reduction.
