The Rural Studio

Rural Studio is a design-build program based at Auburn University that focuses on creating affordable, sustainable architecture for underserved communities in the rural American South. Students and faculty collaborate to design and build practical structures—such as homes, community centers, and clinics—using local materials and innovative solutions. The goal is to improve quality of life while providing hands-on learning opportunities for students. By combining architecture, community engagement, and social responsibility, Rural Studio demonstrates how thoughtful design can address real-world needs and foster positive social change.
