The Rump Parliament

The Rump Parliament was a shortened version of the English Parliament that existed from 1648 to 1660 after the English Civil War. It was formed when the more moderate members purged the Long Parliament, which had challenged King Charles I. The Rump was controlled by those supporting the Commonwealth and eventually led to the trial and execution of Charles I. It operated without Royal authority and was responsible for key decisions during England's brief period as a republic. The Rump parliament was finally dissolved in 1660, leading to the Restoration of the monarchy.
