The Roundheads and Cavaliers
The Roundheads and Cavaliers were opposing groups during the English Civil War in the 1640s. The Roundheads, mainly Parliament supporters, favored a constitutional government and were characterized by their shorter haircuts. The Cavaliers, largely royalists, supported King Charles I and traditional monarchical rule, often wearing long hair and elaborate clothing. The conflict arose over disputes about authority, governance, and religious practices. The war ended with the defeat of the Cavaliers, leading to the temporary overthrow of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic under Oliver Cromwell.
