The Rookery Building
The Rookery Building, located in Chicago, is a historic office skyscraper completed in 1888, renowned for its innovative design. It was one of the first buildings to use a steel-frame structure, allowing for taller construction. Its distinctive architecture combines elements of Romanesque Revival and early modern styles, featuring a beautiful iron-and-glass interior courtyard and intricate stonework. Designed by architects Burnham and Root, with later updates by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Rookery remains an important example of early skyscraper engineering and design, symbolizing Chicago’s architectural innovation during the late 19th century.
