The Rifle Brigade
The Rifle Brigade was a British military unit established in 1800, specializing in light infantry tactics. Unlike traditional line infantry, they favored agility, marksmanship, and skirmishing, making them effective in diverse combat scenarios. They carried rifles instead of muskets, enabling longer-range accuracy. The Brigade played significant roles during the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, and other 19th-century conflicts. Known for their discipline, innovative tactics, and distinctive green uniforms, they helped modernize infantry warfare. The Rifle Brigade was later integrated into the Royal Ulster Rifles in 1966, continuing their legacy of specialized light infantry service.
