The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA)
The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is a law that protects individuals’ right to practice their religion freely. It requires the government to have a compelling reason for enforcing laws that interfere with someone's religious beliefs, and any restriction must be the least restrictive way to achieve that interest. In essence, RFRA aims to ensure that religious practices are not unnecessarily burdened by government actions, balancing religious liberty with other public interests, and applying across federal and, in some cases, state laws.
