The Red Record
The Red Record, created by Ida B. Wells in 1895, is a detailed documentation of lynching incidents in the United States between 1890 and 1895. It reports specific cases of mostly Black victims who were murdered by mobs, often under false pretenses or without fair trials. The record aimed to expose the brutal reality of racial violence and challenge the widespread misperception that lynching was a justified response to crime. By providing factual accounts, the Red Record sought to raise awareness, promote justice, and encourage social and political change to combat racial injustice.
