The Radburn Plan
The Radburn Plan is a design for neighborhoods that separates cars from pedestrians to promote safety and walkability. It organizes homes around communal green spaces with pathways that allow people to walk or bicycle away from busy streets. Streets are often arranged so that traffic moves around the neighborhood, not through its middle, reducing congestion and accidents. This layout encourages a sense of community, easy access to parks, and safer, quieter streets for residents. Developed in the 1920s in Radburn, New Jersey, the plan influenced modern suburban and eco-friendly urban design.
