The R2P Doctrine
The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is a global principle established to ensure that nations protect their populations from serious harm, such as genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. It holds that if a country is unable or unwilling to safeguard its citizens, the international community has a duty to intervene, using diplomatic or, if necessary, military means. R2P emphasizes prevention, timely response, and rebuilding efforts after crises, aiming to prioritize human rights and humanitarian needs over national sovereignty in extreme cases where civilian lives are at risk.
