The Röntgen effect

The Röntgen effect refers to the production of X-rays when high-energy electrons strike a metal target. When electrons collide with the metal, their energy slows down and is converted into X-ray photons, which are high-energy electromagnetic waves. This process occurs in X-ray tubes used for medical imaging and scientific purposes. The effect is fundamental to generating X-rays, allowing us to see inside the body or analyze materials without damage. It was discovered by Wilhelm Röntgen in 1895, leading to the development of modern radiography and greatly advancing diagnostic techniques.
