The Quit India Movement
The Quit India Movement was a major protest launched by India’s independence leaders in August 1942, demanding an end to British rule. Organized by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress, it called for Indians to peacefully resist British authority and achieve self-rule. The movement marked a turning point in India’s struggle for independence, inspiring mass participation and civil disobedience. The British responded with arrests and suppression, but the movement heightened nationalist sentiment and ultimately contributed to India gaining independence in 1947. It is remembered as a significant effort for India's freedom from colonial rule.
