The production of coke

Coke is produced by heating coal in a process called coking. This involves heating the coal in a special oven without oxygen, which drives off water, gases, and impurities. The remaining solid is carbon-rich coke, which is used as a fuel and in steelmaking. The process releases byproducts like coal tar, ammonia, and gases that can be further processed into useful chemicals. Essentially, coking transforms coal into a cleaner, more concentrated carbon form suitable for industrial purposes while capturing byproducts for other uses.
